    Joe and Jeff were good friends. Their job was doing some cleaning for some large and tall buildings. It was not a difficult job, but sometimes it was a little dangerous, because they had to sling(悬挂) themselves in the air while doing some cleaning. And at times, some workmen were careless and dropped something from the top of the buildings.
    One morning, Joe was cleaning the windows, which were in the middle part of the building, with a cigarette behind one of his ears. Suddenly, somebody on the top shouted, “Look out!” Joe heard that and looked up. As he did so, a long knife fell off the top of the building. Luckily, the knife missed Joe’s head, but it cut off one of his ears.
    At once he cried out, “I’ve lost an ear. Jeff! Help! Help!”

    Jeff was working on the ground at the moment. When he heard that, he hurried to see what had happened.
